The United Nations (UN) on Monday revoked travel privileges of two Taliban officials in response to the restrictions imposed on female students in Afghanistan.
Travel exemptions permitting 15 Taliban officials to go abroad for negotiations were set to expire on Monday. However, the India-led UN sanctions panel granted the waiver to only 13 Taliban members, thus banning Said Ahmad Shaidkhel, the acting deputy education minister, and Abdul Baqi Basir Awal Shah, the acting minister of higher education from travelling.
This means the two officials will not be able to travel outside of Afghanistan.
The UNSC or the Taliban government in Afghanistan are yet to give an official response on the matter.
